Recent Blue Canvas work: six websites with a clear purpose

A website earns its place by helping someone do something useful: find the right class, understand a product, compare a quote or work out what to do next.

Alongside AI training and consultancy, Blue Canvas designs and builds websites and focused digital products. Here are six recent projects, spanning client work and our own specialist sites. Each starts with a different audience and a practical question to answer.

Platform Pilates: two studios, one clear booking journey

For Platform Pilates, the website needs to feel like the business people will visit. That means real photography from its Ebrington and Coleraine studios, its own visual identity, and straightforward information about classes, levels and prices.

We built the site around those details. Visitors can explore the two locations, understand the difference between class types and choose the appropriate studio before moving to the timetable.

The important integration is with LegitFit, the studio's existing booking system. Studio-specific routes connect visitors to live timetables, passes and client sign-in. LegitFit remains responsible for availability, bookings, payments and accounts; the website gives people a clear way into that service.

It is a good example of a website fitting around how a business already operates. There is no benefit in asking the studio to manage a second booking system.

Out of Donegal: putting the products and makers first

Out of Donegal is a maker-led shop preview built around products with a connection to Donegal. The current collection begins with Tweed.ie's herringbone golf headcovers, with product pages for the Fintra and Murvagh designs.

The work brings together product imagery, named-maker information, size options and a straightforward route from the collection to each product. The surrounding story gives the collection a sense of place without getting in the way of inspecting the items.

Out of Donegal is currently a preview and is not taking orders. The distinction is visible on the site. This is a showcase of the design and browsing experience, not a claim that an online shop is already trading.

House Price Derry: making local property data useful

House Price Derry gives homeowners an initial guide to what their property might be worth. Visitors enter their property details, then provide a name and email address to see their estimate and receive a report. The site explains the report request and follow-up choices before submission.

The calculator draws on official UK House Price Index data for Derry City and Strabane and explains its assumptions in a published methodology. It presents a guide range and confidence label, not a formal RICS valuation or an observed sale price for a particular address.

The work combines a focused calculator, local market guides and a report-request journey. The design challenge is making useful local information accessible while keeping the sources, limitations and choice to request follow-up visible.

DrainSurveyCost: turning research into a useful checklist

Someone researching a CCTV drain survey needs more than a price headline. They need to understand what the inspection includes, what report they will receive and which details are missing from a quote.

DrainSurveyCost brings those questions into one practical journey. A short questionnaire produces a checklist and a quote-request message that users can copy or print and send to contractors. A separate comparison tool helps them put existing quotes side by side and identify questions to ask.

The site also explains published price examples, survey reports and access considerations. Users do not need to hand over contact details to get their checklist. Blue Canvas runs the guidance site; it does not carry out inspections or take survey bookings.

Cricket Bat Size Guide: a starting point players can use

Cricket Bat Size Guide, also known as BatFit, starts with a familiar question for players and parents: what size bat should I be looking at?

We built a height-based calculator alongside published manufacturer charts, with centimetres and feet-and-inches inputs and no sign-up required. The result is a starting point, supported by explanations of weight, pickup and control of the actual bat.

The wider site includes junior sizing, bat-maker information and practical care guides covering preparation, storage and repairs. The calculator and editorial content work together: a quick answer for the first question, then more detail when someone needs it. The site makes its sources visible rather than presenting one sizing recommendation as a guaranteed fit.

Gambling Complaints: calm information and clear next steps

Gambling Complaints, presented on the site as Gambling Complaint Support, is a free Blue Canvas project for people trying to understand and prepare a gambling complaint.

The design starts with the situation the person recognises, such as a delayed withdrawal, an account closed with money remaining or concerns about gambling harm. From there, the guides explain the questions to ask and the records to keep. People can read without registering or uploading their documents.

This project calls for a different tone from a shop or studio website. Clear navigation, calm wording and visible support links matter more than sales language. The site helps people prepare their own next steps; it is not a regulator or law firm, does not send complaints for them and does not promise refunds.

What connects the work

These projects have different audiences, but the design decisions follow the same pattern:

  • Start with the visitor's task. Choosing a studio, checking a product and preparing a complaint need different journeys.
  • Use the right material. Real studio photography, product details and named sources are more useful than generic filler.
  • Connect existing systems where they fit. Platform Pilates uses LegitFit rather than duplicating booking and payment administration.
  • Make the next step obvious. A timetable, a checklist, a calculator or a guide should be easy to reach.
  • Be clear about limits. A shop preview is not a trading shop, and a guidance tool is not a professional inspection or a guaranteed outcome.

The common thread is practical web development: taking information, a service or an idea and turning it into something people can understand and use.
